Its most prominent feature, from which it gets its name, is the magnificent brush-like bristles that grow on the snouts of mature males. It is extremely popular as an “algae eater,” readily consuming brown algae on glass and driftwood. Staying relatively small for a pleco at around 15cm and having a peaceful nature, it is an ideal species for beginners to pleco keeping.
