Clavularia

Clavularia is a genus of soft corals that forms spreading colonies by extending creeping stolons across rock, coral rubble, and other firm substrates, with upright tubular polyps emerging from the connected network. Each polyp bears eight pinnate tentacles that create a delicate flower-like or palm-like appearance, while symbiotic dinoflagellates within the tissues provide much of the energy required for growth through photosynthesis. In aquariums, Clavularia benefits from moderate lighting, indirect and variable water movement that prevents debris from accumulating around the stolons, and stable water conditions, while placement on an isolated rock helps control its rapid expansion and prevents it from covering neighboring corals.
