Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi is a small South American characin known in the aquarium hobby as the Black Neon Tetra, admired for the bold black lateral stripe and bright pale line above it that give the fish a refined, contrasting appearance. As a peaceful and hardy shoaling species, it is well suited to planted community aquariums with other gentle small fish, where a group can create a calm sense of movement and visual depth. In captivity, maintaining stable slightly acidic to neutral water, offering finely sized balanced foods, and providing both open swimming space and planted shelter are important points for preserving its clear stripe pattern, natural shoaling behavior, and long-term health.
