Valenciennea puellaris

Valenciennea puellaris is a sand-sifting goby distributed across the Indo-West Pacific, known for its pale body marked with delicate orange spots and its habit of taking mouthfuls of sand to search for tiny benthic organisms and organic matter. In aquariums, this species is valued for its graceful appearance and for helping keep the substrate surface clean, but its constant feeding behavior also means that it can become undernourished if the sand bed lacks enough natural food or if it does not accept prepared diets. To maintain Valenciennea puellaris in good condition, it is important to provide a mature aquarium with a wide area of fine, smooth sand, stable rockwork that will not collapse from digging activity, and a varied diet of enriched frozen foods and sinking marine feeds that supports its natural foraging behavior.
