Poecilia

Poecilia is a genus of livebearing freshwater and brackish-water fish that includes familiar ornamental species such as guppies, mollies, and endlers, and it is valued for its vivid coloration, active behavior, and remarkable reproductive adaptability. Instead of laying eggs externally, Poecilia gives birth to free-swimming young, allowing aquarists to observe the continuity of life in a direct and dynamic way. When keeping Poecilia in captivity, stable water quality, appropriate hardness and salinity depending on the species, balanced nutrition, and careful management of male-to-female ratios are essential for reducing stress, supporting healthy breeding, and maintaining vibrant, sustainable aquarium populations.
