Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus is a slender marine pipefish known as the banded pipefish, distinguished by its elongated body, bold ring-like bands, and delicate swimming style within sheltered reef environments. Found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters, it often inhabits lagoons, tide pools, reef slopes, caves, and crevices, where it searches for tiny planktonic animals and small crustaceans while using its narrow body shape to move quietly through complex reef structures. In aquarium care, Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus is admired for its elegant appearance and calm behavior, but it requires a mature, peaceful marine system with gentle water flow, ample hiding places, and a reliable supply of suitably small foods such as copepods or enriched live and frozen fare to maintain long-term health.
