Poropanchax normani

Poropanchax normani is a species of small killifish native to the rivers and swamps of West Africa, characterized by the brilliant blue iridescent crescent on the upper half of its eyes that gives it the common name African Lampeye. This unique feature acts as a biological beacon, allowing members of a school to stay together in the dark, tannin-stained waters of their natural environment, and it creates a sparkling effect when a group swims through a planted aquarium. Successful care requires consistent water quality and a diet of high-quality micro-foods, as their small size and active nature demand frequent, nutritious feedings. While they are peaceful and well-suited for community tanks with other small species, their tendency to jump necessitates a tight-fitting lid, and providing a backdrop of dense vegetation will help them feel secure and display their most intense coloration.
