Oxymonacanthus longirostris

Oxymonacanthus longirostris is a slender marine filefish known as the harlequin filefish, admired for its elongated snout, blue-green body, and orange-spotted pattern that blends beautifully among branching coral colonies. In the wild, it lives closely around Acropora-rich coral reefs and feeds primarily on coral polyps, making its ecology highly specialized and closely tied to healthy reef habitats. In aquarium care, Oxymonacanthus longirostris is valued for its exceptional beauty but is considered very challenging to maintain, as it often requires a mature, peaceful system, carefully managed feeding, and an understanding that its natural coral-feeding habits make it unsuitable for most reef tanks with valued SPS corals.
