Odonus niger is a marine triggerfish known as the red-toothed triggerfish, recognized for its dark blue to purplish body, distinctive reddish teeth, and active swimming style around reef slopes and outer reef drop-offs. In the wild, it often forms groups in current-swept areas, feeding mainly on planktonic foods while also using reef structures for shelter, which gives it a different character from many bottom-foraging triggerfish. In aquarium care, Odonus niger is valued for its graceful movement, striking coloration, and generally less destructive behavior compared with some aggressive triggerfish, but it still requires a spacious marine system with strong filtration, open swimming space, secure rockwork, and carefully chosen tankmates to support long-term health.
