Megalamphodus sweglesi

Megalamphodus sweglesi is a small South American characin known in the aquarium hobby as the Red Phantom Tetra, admired for its translucent red body, distinct dark shoulder spot, and graceful appearance in planted aquariums. As a peaceful shoaling fish from the Orinoco River basin, it shows its finest character when kept in a calm group, where males may display with expanded fins and subtle movements that add depth and elegance to the aquarium. In captivity, maintaining stable soft to moderately hard water, providing fine-quality foods, and combining open swimming space with aquatic plants or shaded refuges are important points for preserving its vivid coloration, natural behavior, and long-term health.
