Dormitator is a genus of fishes in the sleeper goby family Eleotridae, whose members inhabit freshwater, estuaries, lagoons, mangroves, and other brackish environments in tropical and subtropical regions. Species in the genus generally have robust bodies, rounded heads, and separate pelvic fins, and they spend much of their time near the bottom while feeding on algae, detritus, small invertebrates, and other available food. Many Dormitator species are amphidromous, with adults living and reproducing in inland or coastal waters while their early developmental stages disperse through marine or estuarine environments, making their connection between rivers and the sea a defining aspect of the genus.
