Characidium

Characidium is a genus of small South American characins characterized by a slender body, bottom-oriented lifestyle, and quick darting movements that give them a distinctive presence in the aquarium. Unlike many midwater tetras, Characidium species often rest on the substrate or move in short bursts among sand, stones, driftwood, and aquatic plants, making them especially appealing in natural or biotope-style layouts. In captivity, maintaining clean and stable water, providing fine substrate and hiding places, and avoiding overly aggressive tank mates are important points for bringing out the natural behavior and subtle charm of Characidium.
