Anchoviella jamesi is a small tropical freshwater fish in the anchovy family Engraulidae and is commonly known as James’s anchovy. The species inhabits the middle and upper reaches of rivers within the Amazon and Orinoco systems, where it occupies open water and forms schools as part of its pelagic lifestyle. Its slender body, silvery coloration, and maximum standard length of approximately five centimeters reflect an adaptation to active swimming in flowing inland waters, making Anchoviella jamesi a distinctive example of the freshwater anchovies found in northern South America.
