Exochochromis is a genus of cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa and is best known for its highly specialized piscivorous lifestyle. Exochochromis develops an elongated, streamlined body and a large mouth suited to capturing other fishes, allowing it to function as an active predator in relatively open areas of the lake. In captivity, Exochochromis requires a spacious aquarium with ample swimming room, stable alkaline hard water, and a nutritionally balanced diet rich in animal protein, while careful selection of tank mates is essential because smaller fishes may be regarded as prey.
