Craterocephalus randi is a small tropical freshwater fish commonly known as the Kubuna hardyhead and is distributed across central-southern New Guinea, including parts of Papua New Guinea and Indonesian Papua. The species has an elongated body, reaches approximately 8 centimeters in standard length, and inhabits clear rivers and small tributary streams with muddy, sandy, or rocky bottoms. Its slender silvery appearance and adaptation to flowing freshwater environments reflect the distinctive ecological diversity of New Guinea’s inland waters, making the species an important example of the region’s native hardyhead fauna.
