Barilius bakeri

Barilius bakeri is a lively freshwater fish from the well-oxygenated rivers and streams of the Western Ghats in southern India, admired for its swift swimming, streamlined form, and elegant shoaling behavior near the middle and upper layers of the water. Its energetic nature and refined coloration make it especially appealing in spacious aquaria that recreate clear, fast-flowing hill-stream conditions with strong filtration, high oxygen levels, and open swimming space. When keeping this species, maintaining a group rather than a single individual, avoiding very small tankmates, and providing clean, current-rich water are important points for bringing out the natural movement and vitality that define this distinctive bariliine fish.
