Hyphessobrycon moniliger

Hyphessobrycon moniliger is a small freshwater characin native to central Brazil, particularly the Tocantins and Araguaia river systems, and is valued in the aquarium hobby for its warm golden to orange body color and graceful schooling behavior. As a peaceful tetra, it shows its natural beauty most clearly when kept in groups, where subtle social interactions, active midwater swimming, and delicate fin movement create a calm but lively display. When maintaining this species in captivity, a stable aquarium with clean, soft to moderately soft water, subdued lighting, fine-leaved plants, driftwood, and a varied diet of small prepared and frozen foods helps support healthy coloration, low stress, and behavior closer to that seen in its natural habitat.
