Hyphessobrycon margitae

Hyphessobrycon margitae is a small Peruvian characin from the Río Nanay drainage, valued in the aquarium hobby for the striking contrast between its bright blue body sheen and reddish fins. As a peaceful shoaling tetra, it shows its natural beauty most clearly when kept in a group, where active midwater swimming, subtle displays among males, and a calm temperament create an elegant presence in planted or blackwater-style aquariums. When maintaining this species in captivity, soft to slightly acidic water, subdued lighting, stable warm conditions, hiding places among plants or driftwood, and a varied diet of fine prepared, frozen, or live foods are important for reducing stress, encouraging healthy coloration, and bringing out the refined appeal of this uncommon tetra.
