It is immensely popular as a “dinosaur fish” due to its crocodile-like face, hard ganoid scales, and the series of dorsal finlets that are reminiscent of a dinosaur. This species is particularly characterized by its powerful-looking protruding lower jaw and the striking black bands on its greenish-brown body. While known as a beginner’s large fish, it ultimately grows to over 60 cm, requiring a serious commitment and large facilities for its care.
