アルジイーターは、東南アジア原産のコイの仲間です。その名の通り、水槽のコケ（Algae）を食べる（Eater）ことから、古くからコケ取り役として知られています。しかし、幼魚期はよくコケを食べるものの、成長するとコケをあまり食べなくなり、性格も非常に攻撃的になります。また、最大で25cm以上に成長するため、その性質の変化と最終的な大きさを理解せずに飼育を始めることはできません。The Chinese Algae Eater is a species of cyprinid native to Southeast Asia. As its name suggests, it is known as an “Algae Eater” and has long been popular for that role. However, while juveniles are good algae eaters, they tend to stop eating algae as they grow and also become very aggressive. Furthermore, they grow large, reaching over 25cm, so one cannot begin keeping them without understanding this change in nature and their final size.
