Stichodactyla gigantea

Stichodactyla gigantea, commonly known as the Giant Carpet Anemone, is a magnificent marine invertebrate found throughout the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific. Renowned for its iconic symbiotic relationship with various clownfish species, it serves as a central attraction in advanced reef aquariums. While visually stunning, it is categorized as a high-difficulty species, requiring precise husbandry to thrive. Its short, densely packed tentacles possess a remarkably strong adhesive quality used for capturing prey and deterring predators. To succeed in its long-term care, one must provide intense lighting, such as high-output LEDs or metal halides, along with turbulent, non-linear water flow and pristine water conditions with minimal nitrates and phosphates. Although highly sensitive to shipping and acclimation stress, once established, it becomes a breathtaking centerpiece that beautifully illustrates the complex biological interdependencies of the coral reef ecosystem.
